I was recently shopping around for a corner entertainment center, and was surprised by the selection available. I had only seen small units before that your TV sits upon, with maybe a few shelves beneath for the dvd player, game units etc. But what I found was a lot more impressive, units ranging from full furniture pieces to the smaller units I was familiar with and everything in between. Lets take a look at some of the available styles.

As a kid, our home entertainment center was a simple cart that housed the TV and a VCR. Not very impressive, but it worked fine. I think it might have had a little storage shelf, but I have no idea what was put there. There was no such thing as a remote control so every time we wanted to change channels we had to make a little trip across the room to switch channels. Of course, there were only three channels so it's not like we had to change it that often. Thankfully, TVs grew up and so did the places people put them in.

When I got out on my own and got a TV it just lived on a simple table. That worked fine for a single guy. But marriage changes lots of things. Soon we "had to have" a better place to put the TV because my wife wanted to be able to close it off from view. So, woodworker that I am, I jumped to the rescue. I built a home entertainment center that was a thing of beauty to behold. Solid wood, plenty big, retractable doors, lots of storage, and a massive open cavity to house a ridiculously heavy TV. Like other large entertainment centers, this one was great for what it was. Plus, the top had lots of display space for knick knacks.

The basic "TV stand" also does not meet the convention of small stands in a corner entertainment center, the type you purchase at a massive discount store. There are some really nice stands that are full pieces of furniture in some really nice styles. One I saw that I particularly liked was made of dark wood, I believe walnut, with glass doors in the middle (for components) and three narrow drawers down both sides of the middle compartment. Some of the styles I have seen include Quaker, Mission and Dutch Modern. Others I have seen have the more modern look, with a black or silver finish and glass shelves. Of course, the stands come in varying widths, depending on what you need.

Although it may seem like a project that you could easily put off, it's a great one to involve kids in to teach them how to get organized. By giving them the job of putting the DVDs on the shelf or the c.d.'s into the box, they'll feel as though they completed the project themselves, thus are more likely to put things back where they got them. So if you're sick of spending hours looking for the correct disc or pulling out stacks of movies just to get to the one in the very back, stop wasting time looking and spend more time with your family enjoying this media. By getting organized once and for all - you'll never waste another moment you could be spending with a bowl of popcorn on the couch.

Composition is a tricky thing to master. Unlike the technical aspects of picture-taking, composition cannot be measured like exposure, white balance or focus. It?s a subjective thing that requires personal taste and an appreciation for a range of aspects such as line, shape, perspective and value ? to name a few.

Without a sold set of rules, composing photographs well can feel a little overwhelming. In this article you will discover some of the aspects that contribute a well-composed shot. Its up to you to figure out the best combination for you shot, put them into practice and asses how you can use them o emphasise your scene. Its about self expression and evoking mood and atmosphere, rather than replicating the scene as your camera sees it. The world composition is defined as a mixture of ingredients ? here we?ll provide the ingredients but then its your job to make the cake.

One of the first things you need to establishes in your scene is what to keep and what to discard. You need to actively edit your scene to get the best from it.

This could mean waiting for a person to get out of the shot, hardening a few distracting blades of grass from the flower or simply deciding to only photograph part of the scene rather than all of it.

If you learn on thing about composition, the key is to simplify your scene as much as you can. Photographing the bare essentials will provide a far more striking image than a muddle of conflicting elements screaming at the viewer from every direction. -Texture To really appeal to the viewer?s sense, incorporate texture into your shot. The appearance of texture can be heightened with the aid of good lighting. A light source raking across the textured surface will exaggerate it beautifully.?

-Tone Tone related to the full range of grays present in the scale from the blackest black to the purest white. For a tranquil appeal, its best to aim for low-contrast. To emphasis extremes, opt for a high contrast effect.

- Color Composition and color combine to create a dramatic impact. Assess your subject and see if it will benefit from color treatment. A bleak scene can be made more dramatic by selectively coloring a single element.

Famous Victorian Bushfire Koala, Sam, Dies

February 2009 saw a huge natural disaster in Australia - The Victorian Bush Fires. In total, 210 people lost their lives and thousands lost their homes and livelihood. The fires burnt over 400,000 hectares.

There was one ray of hope that united the nation during these difficult times - the rescue of a Koala called Sam. Millions saw the video of Sam being given water from a fire fighter. The Koala had second and third degree burns on its paws but recovered well at South Ash Wildlife Refuge.

There is a disease called "Urogenital Chlamydia" that has affected nearly half of the Koala species. Unfortunately Sam the Koala had been affected by the disease. You may have heard of it as a human sexually transmitted disease and the impacts in Koalas are very similar. The disease leads to urinary tract infections, infertility and even blindness.

Last week Sam was due to have an operation to remove cysts in her abdomen caused by the disease. It was clear however when they started to operate that the disease had spread. Sam was euthanized as it was decided that nothing more good be done for her. It would have left her in too much pain to keep her alive.

David Tree, the Firefighter who rescued the Koala was said to be in floods of tears. The Koala had become a symbol of hope and of course had shown true survival skills. There will be a commemorative plaque erected in Sam's honour in the place where he was given the water by the firefighter.

A native animal to Australia, the Koala is a must see animal on your visit to Australia. You'll see them high up in the Eucalyptus trees if you are lucky. This is their main food supply and actually gives them 90% of their water requirements. It's very rare for them to drink water.

Koala bears carry their young in a pouch, making them a marsupial. Did you know that the baby Koala is called a joey? It is only 2cm long when it is born and will live in its mother's pouch for at least 6 months. It will then spend time in and out of the pouch until it can survive on its own.

Koalas are sadly not as common as Kangaroos so seeing one on your trip is a little tricky. Wildlife parks and Koala sanctuaries are great places to see Koala bears especially as some of these places will in fact let you hold them. There is nothing better than seeing one in its natural habitat in the wild. If you know where to look you have a good chance of seeing one in the wild.

Just don't think about trying to give them a cuddle in the wild. If you disturb them, they can be very vicious. You only need to take a look at their claws to work that out.
